The Mentors
I haven't looked up the 'official' definition of the word mentor, but the Michael version is something like this:
to walk alongside a person, providing encouragement, advice, and accountability to help a person reach a goal.
Being a coach for one person is a quite a task, but coaching 70 people is impossible without some amazing helpers…the mentors.
It was an honor to be asked to coach the 2018 Bridge Street Half Marathon Training Program, but just as big an honor was eighteen people agreeing to help me…the mentors.
Each mentor was chosen because of their great attitude, past experience and willingness to set aside personal goals to help others reach theirs.
A quote from a leader of the last century states: "He who will not use the thoughts of other men's brains proves he has no brains of his own.”
Confession, I am not the most seasoned running coach, nor do I have the years of experience as others might, but I do have a great group of people who are willing to come alongside me…the mentors.
As a coach or mentor we may have the answer a participant needs but even more powerful is our willingness to work as a team to provide encouragement, advice, and accountability to help participants reach their goal.
That’s teamwork, that’s…the mentors.
Big thanks to the 'eighteen.'
