Wings To Soar

Wings To Soar

It is tough to lose a great employee, but sometimes it is the best path, and it can be an outcome of the organization's desire to invest in the team member.

When you spend the time and money to hire "A" players, I believe it is in the organization's best interest to 'grow t to invest in the team members so that they r’ so that they reach their fullest potential.

However, if they are hired away to a more advanced position, it is a testimony to what we have helped them become.

A quick Google search on how to invest in a team member will reveal a plethora of models on how to train, encourage, and empower a team member to perform and lead well.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. We should enter the relationship with the team member with a desire to see them grow and operate with a curiosity mindset, looking for and unveiling their hidden potential.

  2. We should demonstrate that we care for them personally but challenge them to drive for growth.

  3. We should invest in their growth opportunities, even pay for study materials or certification exams.

  4. We should collaborate with and hold them accountable for their path to potential.

Helping a team member become the best version of themselves will benefit them and the organization. And if their journey takes them to a better opportunity outside of our organization, it may be the best compliment we receive; growing them up to stay may give them wings to soar.
