What plan?

What plan?

The goal has been set, the desired outcome.

One of my favorite quotes and I use it often is:

Direction, not intention, determines destination.

Setting the goal is not enough. You will never get there until you take the first step.

Once I realized I won a lottery spot to the Marine Corp Marathon I had to make a plan that would help get me in the right shape to finish the race.

For this race, I chose a marathon training plan developed by my friend David Haywood.  The plan would include elements gradually increasing my weekly miles with specific workouts to improve speed and aerobic fitness.  You can take a glimpse at David’s plan by visiting Run4Others.com. The site allows you to input a race date and weeks of training you desire. From those two numbers, it will create your plan.

*Note David even has a great app in the Apple App Store, TrackSplits, that will help you determine the correct paces for your speed workouts.

I chose a sixteen-week plan and I am now on week two.

So far so good.  I am feeling good and able to finish all the workouts without feeling exhausted.  That’s the advantage of using a plan created by a qualified, experienced coach.
