Seeds Covered In Dirt Grow
You can’t harvest what you don’t plant.
As I write, this pollen is flying in the air, and people are flocking to the home improvement stores to buy the plants for the season. Everyone is looking for the best seeds to place in the ground, as you can’t harvest what you don’t plant.
The secret of raising good crops is choosing great seed, covering them with decaying material, and flooding them often with water. That does not sound like an environment for growth.
What grows is based on the seed.
While reading the book The Insanity of God, I came across this phrase: “what you take into persecution is what grows in persecution.” It is the same principle as planting seeds.
The phrase came from a person who had endured three years in prison for a crime he had not committed. The former prisoner goes on to define the phrase stating if a person came to prison with a heart filled with love or humility, that grew, but if he came in with anger or jealousy, those would grow. The surroundings of prison became the soil and food to produce whatever you brought in with you.
Everyone will face stress.
Very few of us will face persecution or prison, but the day will come when everyone will face a trial, problem, or stressful situation. Here we are in the spring of 2020, and everyone is forced to endure a unique situation.
What do we see growing inside of us now? What do we need to change?
If we brought in contentment for our current situation with no vision for change, how will that grow?
If we brought in fear, how will that grow?
If we brought in an entrepreneur spirit, how will that grow?
If we brought in a deep desire to care for people, how will that grow?
How about jealousy, anger, joy, or even our trust in our life calling or purpose?
In 1st Peter 4:12, we find these words, “Beloved, don’t be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you.”
Preparing seed is the place to start.
We shouldn’t be surprised at trials or stress, but be can prepare.
Stress is the soil that covers our engrained personal traits, values, and even vision. What grows is what seed we bring with us.
What can we do to prepare for the next time?
What do we need to change now, for what we are currently experiencing?
